The Lord Was Not In The Fire

The initial inspiration for this one is the Heschel quote below.

The Lord was not in the Fire

by John W Leys

God is not always silent;
Man is not always blind
- Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel
Even eyes wide open
Can’t always see
The branches not burning
Within the fire.

The deaf man feels the wind on his face
And the earth moving ‘neath his feet
As the mountain is torn asunder.
He sees the fire; feels it burn,
But the soft murmuring
Voice of the Lord
Is forever silent.
