His birth name was Hiram King Williams. Also, even though he was raised Baptist and made a lot gospel recordings, who's to say he did not have Jewish heritage?
Another thing the nickname Bocephus that he gave to an infant Hank Jr. was said to be from Rodney Brasfield's dummy. However, there there is Jewish name Josephus. Is it possible Bocephus could have been a Southern variation or mispronunciation of such a name?
