Preaching to Himself?

George Harrison's widow Olivia says that some critics and fans misunderstood George's spiritual lyrics as being so serious that they bordered on preachy. Olivia told us that George often used his songs as his own form of spiritual guidance: "He also wrote these things to remind himself. People sometimes accused him of preaching (laughs). But y'know, he was really preaching to himself. He wasn't trying to say, 'You be like this because I'm already like this.' No, he was always trying to remind himself. And that's the reason he liked India so much, because he said that, 'Everywhere you went, there was a reminder.'"I think there's a lesson there for all of us who have the urge to preach...

I find it highly unlikely that George, the Quiet Beatle, would take it upon himself to preach to others ... it just don't seem like his style.
Couldn't have said it better myself. It always amused me when people accused him of "preaching," because I think it said more about them then it did him. Since, as you say, preaching just doesn't seem his style.
Some people get very freaky when others talk/write/sing about thier own religious faith (whatever it may be) and automatically assume talking=preaching. I've been accused of being preachy, when all I thought I was doing was explaining my POV.
Well, it's weird ... I mean John, the activist, was definitely preachy, with his bed-ins and peace sit-ins and stuff of that nature ...
If George had something to preach about, I'm sure he would have been more vocal about it.
Music, like our blogs, are a form of our individual expressions. You and me, we're both colorful kindsa Jews ... but we never forecefully tell people, "You gotta believe in one God," because if we did, if anything, it would do us, and our God, a tremendous disservice.
I agree, it says more about them ... people can be so defensive and just kinda perceive things SO wrongly.
That's why we have so many of our ridiculous problems in the world ... it's seems, sometimes, (with all due respect to your gender), that our world leaders are engaged in a Who Has The Biggest Hoo-Haa Contest.
