Pencils in Support of Writers

Ran across this on Ron D. Moore's blog (the creator and producer of the new Battlestar Galactica, in case you didn't know) & thought it was cool enough to pass along:

How would you like to go to a hockey game with the Chief?

That's right, our own Aaron Douglas will take one fan to a Canucks hockey game, along with another buddy of his up in Vancouver. And how can you score this treat? Simple. By going to Pencils2MediaMoguls.com and buying as many boxes of pencils as you can. On the first page (which is a subset of United Hollywood) you'll see a place to identify which show you're supporting. Type in "BSG Aaron Douglas" and we'll enter your name into a raffle, with the lucky winner getting to attend the hockey game with Aaron.

In case you haven't heard, the Pencils Campaign is designed to send a huge amount of pencils to the major studios as a symbol of fan support for the strike. More information can be found on their website
.

The Media

And here I thought the issues I have with reporters and the media in general were of recent origin. Depressingly, they're not and I see no end in sight. But I have to say, I totally understand where ol' Uncle Billy was coming from...

I think I understand what military fame is; to be killed on the field of battle and have your name misspelled in the newspapers."
...

"I hate newspapermen. They come into camp and pick up their camp rumors and print them as facts. I regard them as spies, which, in truth, they are. If I killed them all there would be news from Hell before breakfast."

MADD and the New Prohabition

Just wanted to pass along a post made by Howlin' Hobbit regarding M.A.D.D.'s recent activities, which include firing their founder when she questioned their recent actions... Not much I can add to what he's written already.

Veteran's Day

A big "Thank You" to all those who serve & all those who have served our country!

1916
by Lemmy Kilmister
16 years old when I went to war,
To fight for a land fit for heroes,
God on my side, and a gun in my hand,
Chasing my days down to zero,
And I marched and I fought and I bled and I died,
And I never did get any older,
But I knew at the time that a year in the line,
Is a long enough life for a soldier,
We all volunteered, and we wrote down our names,
And we added two years to our ages,
Eager for life and ahead of the game,
Ready for history's pages,
And we brawled and we fought and we whored 'til we stood,
Ten thousand shoulder to shoulder,
A thirst for the Hun, we were food for the gun,
And that's what you are when you're soldiers,

I heard my friend cry, and he sank to his knees,
Coughing blood as he screamed for his mother,
And I fell by his side, and that's how we died,
Clinging like kids to each other,
And I lay in the mud and the guts and the blood,
And I wept as his body grew colder,
And I called for my mother and she never came,
Though it wasn't my fault and I wasn't to blame,
The day not half over and ten thousand slain,
And now there's nobody remembers our names,
And that's how it is for a soldier.

Jackson

Justine and I duet on Jackson:

Civil War Wilbury

During my recent studies into the US Civil War I ran across a distant ancestor who fought for the union cause:

Lt. General Abraham Mdewakanton Wilbury, Jr.

The background image on this page is a Hebrew translation of the verse from Bob Dylan's song  It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), from which the title of this blog is taken. Translation courtesy of Yoram Aharon of Hod-HaSharon's page--found via YudelLine-- which has many Dylan lyrics in Hebrew.
