This is a rerecording of a song I did some time ago. Its a reworking of the traditional spiritual "Mary, Don't You Weep" into a Jewish version I call "Rachel, Don't You Weep." For this new version I've changed the song from Dm to Dmaj, since it is traditional played in a major key. This is also my first recording featuring my newly acquired banjulele.

Last week, the Pope disclosed in a new book that in 1997 he was opposed to Bob Dylan appearing at a youth event with the late Pope John Paul because he considered the pop star the wrong kind of "prophet".I suppose the obvious cheap shot would be mentioning that Bob is Jewish and that Pope Benedict XVI is a former member of the Hitler Youth, but I'm not nearly petty enough to bring that up...At that concert in central Italy, Dylan sang Knockin' on Heaven's Door, his 1960s anti-war classic A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall, and Forever Young.

As my guru George Harrison often said, you can never have too many ukuleles! I recently picked up this vintage (circa 1940s) "British Made BH&S Melody-Uke" banjo uke down at a little shop in the Village. I've been wanting a banjo uke/banjulele for quite a while & couldn't resist this baby when I saw it. Its a little beat up, but plays like a dream. As one would expect with a banjo head on it the sound is much louder and brasher than a normal ukulele. Its a sound that some uke enthusiasts don't care for, but I think it sounds great (But I've been told I have questionable taste in music ;) )

After weeks of searching and finally giving up all hope, I finally found my sunglasses!! They were hiding in a box of miscellaneous crap left over after the move from PA, which I could have sworn I'd looked in already.

As I continue to make arrangements for my move home almost magical things are taking place in advance of my return. While I was home over the winter break I was able to reconnect with several old friends and spent a good deal of time with one very good friend in particular. As I have mentioned in past posts we got along incredibly well, amost as if we'd never been apart. It is great to still be friends and be the people we are today. And yet, as great as that visit was... there were times when we both felt as if a part of us was missing... you see, once upon a time we were a trio (sometimes joined by a fourth) and we could palpably feel the void left by our missing friend. As good as thing were, we were not complete without her.
Happily this friend has returned to us. After many years apart we find ourselves drawn back together. We're not the same as we once were (if we were we'd likely be dead now), but two things will always remain: our friendship and our love for one another.
And in a few short months we can all sit together again, share a drink, share some memories of the "old days" and make new memories to be remembered at a later date.

I've hesitated to even comment on the whole "Jesus Tomb" thing that James Cameron has stirred up, but Ed Cook over at Ralph the Sacred River has a few meaningful comments on some linguistic aspects of the find, as well as providing some links to other takes on the situation.
